Renovated Community Centre Officially Opens

McGuinty Government Supports Skills Training For Aboriginal Youth
More programs and services are now available at Whitefish River First Nation's newly renovated community centre.
A recipient of the Ontario Aboriginal Community Capital Grants Program, the Whitefish River Community Centre renovations include: new flooring, a new heating system and the installation of a generator.
The renovations make it possible for the community centre to house job search and life skills training programs and services for the community's youth. These programs and services are crucial to promoting healthy lifestyles, which will help improve quality of life on the First Nation. The centre also provides a venue where community events and gatherings may be held.
QUICK FACTS
- Whitefish River First Nation is located 70 km southwest of Sudbury.
- The Aboriginal Community Capital Grants Program provided $456,751 toward the renovation.
- Whitefish River Aboriginal Youth represent one third of the population of the First Nation.
