Ontario is providing the Métis Nation of Ontario with the resources they need to create jobs and develop business partnerships.
Through the New Relationship Fund, the Métis Nation of Ontario, on behalf of its 26 community councils, will be able to hire and train new staff to improve communication with the government and private sector. These positions will include people who have technical skills in energy, forestry and mining and expertise in consultation, traditional land use and knowledge management.
The New Relationship Fund will enhance business and economic development opportunities, thereby improving the quality of life for Métis citizens in Ontario.
"Our government is helping Métis people participate in the economy in a much greater way by providing them with the capacity and resources they need. Being able to better engage the government and private sector will have a positive economic impact in their communities and all of Ontario."
– Brad Duguid
Minister of Aboriginal Affairs
"This announcement is indeed welcome news for the Métis Nation of Ontario. It will enable our communities to more effectively engage with the Ontario Government and industry on consultation and accommodation issues. I applaud the McGuinty government's ongoing commitment to ensuring the New Relationship Fund is implemented, in the face of these challenging economic times in the province."
