As a first step, Ontario students are asked to help design the new awards and submit original artwork until March 30, 2009. The winning design will be announced in June 2009.
The awards will recognize Ontarians who have contributed significantly to supporting a strong and viable Greenbelt. The criteria and nomination process for the awards will be finalized later this spring.
Protecting the environment makes good economic sense. Research shows that the Greenbelt contributes $2.6 billion annually to local economies.
"By helping design these awards, our students can show how important the Greenbelt is and help recognize those Ontarians who have contributed to its success."
– Jim Watson
Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing
