McGuinty Government Promoting Ontario Economy In China

Ontario officially opened its International Marketing Centre in Beijing today to build upon its $21.75 billion trade relationship with China.

The Beijing centre is Ontario's second in China. The other is in Shanghai . The centres are helping Ontario businesses expand the growing trade volume between the two jurisdictions.

International marketing centres help:

  • boost Ontario's strengths and expertise in key global markets 
  • attract more job-creating investments to the province 
  • provide Ontario companies with the contacts and information they need to succeed 
  • connect with key business decision-makers to promote Ontario's interests.  

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Sandra Pupatello is spending a week in China (April 12-18) to strengthen trade relations between the two jurisdictions and explore potential investment and trade opportunities.

Pupatello will also visit Nanjing and Shanghai during her visit.

  • Ontario's exports to China have more than doubled since 2003, as have Ontario's imports from China.
  • China is Ontario's second largest trading partner, next to the U.S.
