The Canadian operations of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) will merge high-performance computer and graphics processors that excel at processing multimedia, like video or 3D games, onto a single silicon die. Over the course of this five-year project, AMD will retain 537 high-value jobs at its Markham facility, while creating 100 jobs.
AMD fusion processors will set new standards for performance, use less power for exceptional battery life and enable breakthrough capabilities for an entire range of computing devices.
This could solidify Markham as a hub for graphics and media processing, which is a cornerstone of the digital entertainment industry."With our government's support, AMD will seek to revolutionize personal computing, relying on Ontario's highly skilled and educated workforce. The computer and digital gaming industries are tremendously important to our economy and hold immense potential for the province - creating high-value jobs and cluster expertise."
