McGuinty Government Supports Revolutionary Computer Design That Creates Jobs
The Canadian operations of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) will merge high-performance computer and graphics processors that excel at processing multimedia, like video or 3D games, onto a single silicon die. Over the course of this five-year project, AMD will retain 537 high-value jobs at its Markham facility, while creating 100 jobs.
AMD fusion processors will set new standards for performance, use less power for exceptional battery life and enable breakthrough capabilities for an entire range of computing devices.
This could solidify Markham as a hub for graphics and media processing, which is a cornerstone of the digital entertainment industry.QUICK FACTS
- AMD is investing approximately $376.4 million over five years in this project, while Ontario will contribute $56.4 million.
- AMD operates facilities in 32 countries worldwide with more than 10,000 employees. Its Canadian facility in Markham has a staff of approximately 1,600.
