The province is investing $25,000 to help the municipality and its partners develop a strategy to position the community as an attractive destination for tourists, investors and businesses looking to relocate. As part of the project, the municipality will also conduct research to gain the insights of residents in developing a new slogan and brand identity for West Nipissing.
The funding is part of the Rural Economic Development Program which invests in community-based projects in three priority areas:
"I would like to congratulate the Municipality of West Nipissing and its partners on their initiative to make their community a tourist destination of choice in the north. Supporting communities that want to do more for their citizens is something that the McGuinty government is strongly committed to."
– David Ramsay
MPP for Timiskaming-Cochrane
"We are pleased with the support of the Ontario government for this initiative. With this funding, the vision of making West Nipissing a strong tourist destination is on its way to becoming a reality."
– Joanne Savage
Mayor, West Nipissing
