The Ministry of Revenue, through an initiative known as ONT-TAXS - Ontario's Tax Services, is introducing new tax administration tools that deliver faster and more convenient service for our tax clients. These changes will meet business demand for more choice, less red tape and improved efficiency in the service they get from government.
ONE TOLL-FREE NUMBER - 1 866 ONT-TAXS (668-8297)
Our new toll-free number is easy to remember - 1 866 ONT-TAXS (668-8297). It replaces 39 toll-free numbers currently used to access Ministry of Revenue services. Through the new interactive telephone system, clients will have "one-window" service delivery and convenient access to information, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
ONE BUSINESS NUMBER - FOR ALL ACCOUNTS
One business, one identifier. You only need one Business Number (BN) for access to information about your federal and provincial government tax accounts.
Ontario is joining the federal government and other provinces in using the Canada Revenue Agency Business Number to securely identify a business and its associated tax accounts.
The Business Number will be phased in for new and existing Retail Sales Tax clients starting in the summer of 2008. Other statutes will follow later. For example, the Business Number for Employer Health Tax will be phased in during the fall of 2008.
ONT-TAXS ONLINE - SIMPLE, SECURE, FREE
ONT-TAXS online, is Ontario's fast, easy, bilingual and secure way to access your tax information, where and when it's convenient - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The new online service will be phased in this summer starting with a small group of Retail Sales Tax volunteers. By the fall of 2008, online service will be available to most of our tax clients.
ONT-TAXS online is convenient and will save time by allowing businesses to:
Protecting your security and tax information
